Producing electricity even at night with modified photovoltaic modules

The PV roof surfaces are sufficient to supply 27 trillion kWh of electricity. The problem with PV, however, is its dependence on the weather and the fact that solar cells can only work during the day. If no light is available, the cells are useless. This is why a nationwide storage technology infrastructure is needed, without which photovoltaics cannot operate at base load. That could change with the American research team at Stanford University. With modified solar cells, it is also possible to produce electricity at night. During the day, the solar cell is heated up to 65 degrees Celsius. When it gets dark, it releases this heat and cools down due to the lack of sunlight. However, it becomes much colder than expected, and colder than the ambient air.
